Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some frequently asked questions along with my answers. Keep in mind, it is three times harder to find a job and five times harder to even get the interview because you are competing against so many more people. My Bulletproof Resume provides you with a resume that will jumpstart your entrance into a door for an interview. However, don’t kid yourself. Your resume is not going to get you the job, only you are. It is not just about your qualifications it’s about how you present them. Yes, I do part of the work for you, giving you a new resume based on the Bulletproof Process, however it requires work beyond just the new resume. If you’re not prepared to do some of the work yourself, go buy a resume somewhere else because this service is not for you. I am giving you a jumpstart and strategy; I am hoping that my boot camp technique, as well as my personal conversations with you, can send you in the right direction. Brace yourself for a long, but meaningful, ride ahead. Lower your expectations in terms of the timing of finding a job and lower the expectations of your family and friends so that they don’t pressure you. It’s tough out there right now; tougher than it’s ever been. But with the right tools in your hand and me on your team you will be armed and prepared to take advantage of the opportunities that are out there.
I have turned away 20% of our customers because I simply feel that they are beyond my help because they are not willing to put in the work to appropriately change their resume. I can only accept a limited number of people at a time so if I don’t think I can help you, I am going to tell you.

Okay, so here are some questions that you might have along with some answers. Let’s get started.
- Do I need an existing resume to get started?
Yes. My service is designed to be extremely affordable by providing you with a foundation based on the Bulletproof Process utilizing your existing resume. Let’s face it, no one likes doing their resume…it’s like going to the dentist or doing your taxes. The Bulletproof Process begins during the initial phone consultation I have with you. If I had an elaborate form, like you receive when it’s time to do your taxes, for you to fill out when you are doing your resume (like you see on many other resume sites) then you might as well do it yourself, right? I am trying to make it easy for you; I am assuming that you are here because you want a quick fix. In order to do that, go dig up what you have.
- Do I need to include every job even if I have worked for a few months or if I have been a stay at home Mom?
I need to know everything! Every company today, big or small, private or public is very security conscious. They verify and background check everybody. Essentially, they have a routine form once they hire you to verify dates of employment. Legally, verifying dates and salary are the only information a former employer can give out about you. So spill your guts. When it comes to doing the resume and when we speak, I will tell you what to use and what not to use. But I need to know everything. As far as being a stay at home Mom, that counts more than you think. That job is tougher than most you will be applying for.
- What qualifies me to do your resume?
I have been a headhunter for over 25 years and the author of two books, “On the Job: How to Make it in the Real World of Work” (RandomHouse) and “Bulletproof Your Job: Four Simple Strategies to Ride Out the Rough Times and Come Out on Top at Work” (HarperCollins). Do your homework on me, the same way you would any company you are applying for. Google or Wikipedia me, “Stephen Viscusi.” My philosophy is described as “Mommy meets Machiavelli.” So if you don’t like your Mom or you can’t appreciate Machiavelli, you’re not going to like me.
- What sets apart Bulletproof Resumes from other resume services?
My personal “Bulletproof” philosophy is that there is no “cookie cutter” resume to get you in the door. I firmly believe that your resume should be customized every time you send it out- this is a fundamental to the Bulletproof Process. You need to understand my philosophy from the very beginning in order for my service to work for you. So I am providing you with a master resume process.
- How long does it take to get a new resume?
In most cases, we will have your first draft in 5 business days, based on scheduling the first phone consultation. I want to hear your goals and aspirations and understand your objectives-the problems you’ve had with the existing resumes and how many interviews you may or may not have gotten. Share that with me in your initial email so that we can make the most of our time together during our initial phone call. Typically, I would charge $500 an hour for a career “kick in the butt.” You’re getting my initial time for free, which is the added value to my Bulletproof Process. Once you receive your new resume, we will schedule our second phone consultation.
- How many edits can I make?
In order to keep our rates low, it is essential to include detailed comments and notes when you provide your existing resume to us to be Bulletproofed. There is a field to make these comments along with your order.
A few last words…
Let me be clear (this is the “Mommy meets Machiavelli” part) you don’t want me as your secretary. It’s not an effective use of yours or my time. You, yourself, will receive your new resume written in the straightforward bulletproof style. One of my secrets to the Bulletproof Process is changing the resume every time you send it out. You’ve got to be willing to do the work to get the interview. The clock is ticking and the race is on for you to get an interview during the middle of this terrible recession. I want to make it clear that this is a unique service that you are buying. Part of it is the Bulletproof Process and the other is my philosophy of getting you in the door by doing whatever it takes.
